Senior Backend Developer

About The Position
We're looking for an Senior Backend Engineer to help shape the future of DataMind AI, Razor Labs' industrial intelligence platform that makes machines smarter. We're looking for an engineer who combines deep technical expertise, strong analytical thinking, architectural vision, and an AI-first engineering mindset. Someone who doesn't just implement specifications but understands the bigger picture, challenges technical assumptions, takes ownership of complex problems, and turns ideas into scalable, production-ready solutions.
What You'll Do
- Own complex features end-to-end — from understanding product requirements and technical specifications to architecture, implementation, testing, and production delivery.
- Design scalable backend architectures supporting industrial AI, high-volume machine data, analytics, and real-time diagnostics.
- Think analytically — investigate complex issues, understand data flows, challenge assumptions, and make sound engineering decisions.
- Leverage AI as a core engineering tool — use AI coding assistants and agents for implementation, architecture exploration, code reviews, testing, debugging, and documentation.
- Turn specifications into working software — take ownership of delivery rather than waiting for detailed step-by-step instructions.
- Shape our architecture — contribute to technical design, scalability, maintainability, reliability, and long-term engineering decisions.
- Raise the engineering bar — mentor developers, improve development practices, and encourage effective adoption of modern AI-powered workflows.
- Collaborate with product, frontend, data engineering, and other teams to deliver meaningful customer value. Our Technology Stack:
- Core: Python, backend services, REST APIs, distributed systems
- Data: PostgreSQL, Google BigQuery, data pipelines, analytical workloads
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Google Cloud Platform, cloud storage, Redis, containerized services
- Engineering: Git, CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews, observability
- AI-Assisted Development: Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or comparable AI coding agents and development tools
Requirements
- At Least 6 years of backend software engineering experience, with strong Python expertise.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills — the ability to break down complex systems, identify root causes, and develop elegant solutions.
- Strong software architecture and system design capabilities, including scalability, data modeling, API design, and distributed systems.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted software development — regularly using AI tools to improve productivity, engineering quality, and delivery speed.
- Experience with cloud services, preferably GCP.
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL, BigQuery, or similar transactional and analytical databases.
- A solid foundation in software engineering best practices, automated testing, CI/CD, and code quality.
- A strong ownership mindset — proactive, independent, motivated, and focused on getting things done.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate, mentor, and lead technical discussions.
- B.Sc. in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
