Startup insights: 13,040 AI companies, counted live#
Under Startups in the menu, AIT runs a directory of startups worth watching and an Insights page. Its promise is short: "Counted live from the directory. Nothing is estimated: every number is a count of sourced listings."
The headline numbers#
On 30 Oct 2026 the page showed 13,040 AI companies across 79 countries. 972 are hiring, with at least 7,607 open roles, and 17 have been acquired or gone public (16 acquisitions, 1 IPO).
Where they are#
The United States (4,090) and Israel (3,705) hold 60% of the companies with a known country. Next come Hong Kong SAR China (810), Japan (790), Germany (697), France (434), Spain (291) and the Netherlands (248).

Who is hiring#
Open roles are counted on each company's own careers page, up to 40 per company. 36 companies show 40 or more, including Anthropic, Mistral AI, Cohere, LangChain, Cursor (Anysphere), Physical Intelligence and 1X Technologies. See every role under Jobs.
Why you can trust it#
Half of all listings cite three sources, and only 4% rest on a single source. AIT lists a company only once its homepage loads and one to three sources back it up. In the page's own words: "We do not invent people, a street address, or size, price, or growth figures."
